I’m blessed with an irrepressible desire to walk, something I’ve had since I was a child (I was always wandering off and scaring the hell out of my folks). This has served me well through the years, (mostly) keeping me fit, even though I had desk jobs most of my life. As I’ve entered my senior years, I still get restless if I can’t get out and walk every day.
It’s been gratifying to see walking heralded more and more as one of the best activities you can do to stay healthy. It’s easy to do—no special equipment needed (other than good walking shoes). Just point yourself in any direction, and get moving! It helps if you walk somewhere free of auto traffic, such as in local parks, along the beach, or on hillside trails. These routes are not only safer, but also more calming. You’ll find your mind start to clear and your appreciation of the world around you blossom. Try it!
